Lady Pepeta – Female Condom
Lady Pepeta is for sexually active women who want to have the confidence of being in control when it matters, so that they can enjoy every aspects of their leisure life, with a trusted brand. Lady Pepeta is a simple everyday solution that gives women the freedom to make and initiate an important behavior to safeguard their well being and lifestyle. Lady Pepeta empowers women who are at risk of HIV/AIDS infection, and provides safe protection against STIs and pregnancy. The target audience is sex workers, bar maids, women engaging in transactional sex, and their male partners. The product is affordably priced at TZS 100 for a packet of two units. Lady Pepeta is available at a wide range of Pharmacy Type I outlets, ADDOS, and private hospitals and centers offering family planning services.
This product is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Tanzania.
Data/results
- Exceeding its target by 10%, 522,690 pieces of Lady Pepeta condoms were sold between January and July of 2008.
- Trade activation were conducted in 2008 during sex worker and bar maids workshops, road shows, market activations, Saba Saba and Nane Nane events, reaching 7,960 outlets and penetrating 290 outlets.
- In 2008, Lady Pepeta was co-promoted with Dume during a road-show and mobile cinema campaign, reaching a total of 305,663 people in 11 mainland regions (Dar, Pwani, Mbeya, Iringa, Tabora, Lindi, Mtwara, Ruvuma, Kilimanjaro, and Mwanza, and Shinyanga).
- In 2008, Lady Pepeta was co-promoted with Flexi P during market day activations, reaching 23,900 people in seven mainland regions (Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Iringa, Mwanza, Arusha, Manyara, and Morogoro).
- The 2005 baseline KAPB survey of barmaids found that 23% thought that oral contraceptives sold by the private sector were “excellent,” 10% thought they were “very good,” 22% thought they were “good,” and 17% thought they were “satisfactory.” The proportion of target groups with a positive attitude toward condoms sold by the private sector was 58% among police, 59% among miners, 65% among truckers, 71% among barmaids, and 72% among CSWs.
