T-MARC Tanzania is a non-profit, Tanzanian, non- governmental organization working to improve public health and promote social well being. Our social products and behaviour change communication initiatives target vulnerable, at risk and low income populations and address infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria, family planning and reproductive health, child survival, water and sanitation and nutrition. We are seeking to recruit candidates for the following position.

Position: Accountant

Supervisor: Finance Manager

Supervise: Assistant Accountant

Location:  Dar es Salaam, Tanzania


Broad Function:

The Accountant is responsible for assisting Finance Manager in; the financial management and planning for T-MARC Tanzania.


Cash Management

  • Prepare invoices or seek remittances for the projects and programs. 
  • Carry out all bank transactions, including withdrawing cash, depositing receipts and other functions.

Partner Support

  • Assist Finance manager in providing financial technical assistance to all sub grantees, and project partners and prepare variance analysis. 


  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Recording approved financial transactions in the accounting software and ensures expenses are allocated appropriately into their budget categories.
  • Prepare and update quarterly Payment management system

 Internal Controls

  • Ensure all transactions are adhere to stipulated policies and procedures
  • Ensure proper documentation of all financial evidence

External Audit

  • Assist Finance manager in coordinating external audit of financial statements


  • Ensure compliance to systems and procedures for T-MARC Tanzania and support anti-fraud initiative.
  • Ensure payments of statutory deductions are done on timely basis.

Accounting Systems

  • Record daily accounting transactions, update general ledger through Microsoft Serenic Navigation, procurement module, inventory model and separate HR functions module for payroll
  • Assist in preparing and ensure clients invoices are issued monthly and billed to PSI for all monthly sales

Financial Controls

  • Ensure internal controls on approvals, documentation and supervision are monitored so that budget holders and   supervisors approve their staff expenses and requisitions
  • Prepare bank reconciliation done monthly for all bank accounts
  • Anti-fraud policy approved is being implemented with operations department
  • Monitor Staff advances
  • Ensure adherence to travel policy for staff use of personal vehicles for T-MARC business
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Finance Manager

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (T) holder or its equivalent, Masters in a business related field, finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 years of Experience in working with NGOs, reputable organization or similar agency preferred.
  • Experience working with donor -funded projects (USAID, European Union, Global Funding, etc).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in developing and formulating strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting regulations and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience providing reliable and accurate financial information
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting systems and proficiency in accounting packages.
